I had a great audience last night at Temple Emanuel in Providence. The talk on using social media for the Jewish genealogist was an overview that didn’t have any how-to details, it was a survey of what’s out there and how you might use a variety of social media tools in your research.

Here’s the link to the pdf version of the handout: Some Resources for Using Social Media for the Jewish Genealogist

To complement the talk, here are some step-by-step how-to’s for using some of the resources that I reviewed last night:

Tips and hints for using social media in your research [will be available by Sunday 13 May]

Enjoy your social media journey!

Here’s a link to the updated and expanded handout on online and local (Massachusetts and Rhode Island) resources for getting started in your Jewish genealogy research –  “Resources for Getting Started in Jewish Genealogy Research.”

Good luck in your research!

About 130 people attended my “How to Find Your Jewish Great-Grandparents, Even Though You Know It’s Impossible” talk at NARA in Waltham Thursday evening. It was a great pleasure for me to share the podium with Walter Hickey, who was my mentor at NARA and who is still my go-to person for anything I need to know about naturalization and immigration records. Walter reviewed the various documents available at NARA that are useful in tracing our Jewish immigrant ancestors.

I promised I’d post an expanded handout here, and that’s coming later today.

Meanwhile, many of the links that I referred to — including the link to request a Social Security application — are in the Resources tab, above.

The link to the new USCIS Genealogy page – where you can request Alien Registration Files and Alien Files (A-Files) –  isn’t yet in the Resources tab, so here it is.

I’ll also be posting on Sunday — at the request of many people — an outline summary of my talk. So please check back then.
